Meet Scott Lippens, founder and director of UPPERCUT, an Antwerp-based gallery operating at the intersection of collectible design, functional art and contemporary culture.

Scott talks in depth his instinct behind collecting, the relationship between gallerist and designer, and what it means to build a gallery around dialogue rather than a fixed aesthetic. We look at how intuition and historical knowledge inform his curatorial approach, and how domestic spaces, exhibitions and scenography can change the way we experience an object.

PORTRAY 07 LAURIDS GALLÉE

Inside Laurids Gallée’s Rotterdam studio, the object appears less as a fixed result than as a container for decisions. Resin blocks, ornamented surfaces, light studies, tools, samples, and half-finished forms construct a space where making remains visible. The studio becomes a working archive of material transformation, carrying the trace of a negotiation between control and accident.

PORTRAY 06 THE GET gallery

Set within Glenn Sestig’s architecture, the artworks require little explanation. They relate to the spaces, surfaces, and to one another. The intriguing aspect lies not only in the identity of the objects but also in what they seem to retain. The show ‘La Rencontre du troisième type’ curated by Fabian Jean Villanueva, presents itself as a convergence of materials that already carry a history. Bernard T. Sestig’s creations traverse the realms of painting, sculpture, and scenography, embodying a theatrical tension that renders the objects slightly unsettling. In contrast, Middernacht & Alexander engage with recovered industrial remnants, allowing the signs of corrosion, damage, and use to remain visible instead of erasing them.

LA RENCONTRE DU TROISIÈME TYPE is an exhibition centred on encounters, but it also delves into the concept of residue: what lingers in materials after use, damage, and transformation.
