VERSTREPEN.STUDIO

Joris Verstrepen, a Belgian designer born in West-Flanders, is the founder of his eponymous label Verstrepen.studio. He’s part of a rising generation of designers whose creative methods are reshaping the very essence of design practice. Beyond his personal design philosophy, he challenges conventional notions within the field of design. Verstrepen’s ideology is firmly anchored in four fundamental pillars: nature, imperfection, craftsmanship, and the sensory experience. He seeks to delve into various creative realms, including textiles, ceramics, and object design.

In an era where the established linear principles of western culture and economic models are losing relevance, Verstrepen’s work engages with the act and importance of creation. His design journey transcends mere aesthetics, delving into the very essence of our evolving world and the profound transformations taking place within it.

ROBIN BERREWAERTS

Berrewaerts work is situated between furniture and sculpture with a strong emphasis on materiality and craftsmanship. He creates objects that may follow, or deliberately escape, traditional forms and functions.

Material, gestures, and intuition meet to form ideas. The process is physical and energetic. Every movement, every repeated gesture, is a way of searching for the right personality of the object. Working the material is a continuous negotiation. Sometimes repetitive, sometimes almost meditative, the process demands presence in the moment, changing tools, testing textures, following what the material suggests. There is a point where things come together, when texture and shape begin to speak the same language. These moments mark the beginning of many pieces.

Wood remains central to his practice for its diversity in form and condition. Whether sourced directly from a tree or industrially processed, each piece carries its own identity, guiding the process and outcome. Many works incorporate black as a concluding gesture through burning, oxidizing, or painting. This final layer absorbs light and shifts perception, drawing attention first to form and surface, before the material reveals itself.
